Experienced bass player with a very eclectic taste. Have played in many covers and function bands. Able to hit the ground running and sit in at short notice in emergencies. I have a very good ear. Have played in large and small ensembles, orchestras and duets/trios. Regularly playing in church most weeks and have done some larger events. Finding the groove and interesting harmonies to keep the musical pulse going is important to me. Sometimes when the piano player is all over the root notes I'll find a tenor part as an alternative and my instincts for supporting the singers are good. Diary permitting I am available most evenings and also for daytime gigs. Sunday is usually my busiest day. Outside of my church work, I am currently playing in a Rock band who compose their own material. Occasionally play in a Ceildgh band for occasional gigs.

EQUIPMENT
For generic use, I play a Steinberger Synapse 5 string bass. If the gig calls for reflective or melodic styles, I use a Small Body Stanley Clark Alembic four string. For pop covers and Jazz where I need synth bass sounds or double bass, I use a custom Alembic fitted with a GK pickup played through a Roland V-Bass 99. A range of bass rigs from small club size combos (mainly Roland because they are silent when not playing) up to larger Ashdown/Aguilar stacks. I am developing my fretless bass playing skills on an electric double bass.

It's here now (Extract) Track number: 6 Year: 2017 Album: Where once giants trod Genre: Folk
This is an extract illustrating a blend of Folk/Progressive music. I was invited to join the Beggars Gate band after they heard me playing one morning in the church band. The band leader thought my bass playing technique would fit the style of his original compositions so they could complete a recording project. A year on and we are still enjoying working together.

Sanctuary gates (Extract) Track number: 9 Year: 2017 Album: Where once giants trod Genre: Progressive
A second track extract by the Beggars Gate band. I play a wide variety of different styles. This is an example of progressive/folk rock. On this track I am playing the bass through a Roland V-Bass 99 unit to get a synthesised effect.
