H.S.O.L. are a group of friends and neighbours who love music and play bass, drums, guitar and organ to varying degrees of success.

We live near Manchester city centre and are aged around 30 [give or take a couple of years each way]. We are looking to make a mixture of lounge-gaze-krautpop - or something equally pretentious.

We've recently started a new band after taking time out from our old indie-pop band which we released a record on Shelflife and toured Europe - we wanted to make something a bit different so if you like bands such as Yo La Tengo, Camera Obscura, Broadcast, Magnetic Fields, Stereolab, Galaxie 500, The Pastels, Arab Strap, Sonic Youth, Go-Betweens, Red House Painters, Pale Saints, Dinosaur Jr, Vaselines and Kim Wilde . . . give us a shout.

We primarily need vocals similar to Georgia from Yo La Tengo, Kim from the Breeders/Pixies, Emma from the Delgados, etc [if you can play organ, guitar or tambourine too that'd be even better] but we're open to ideas.

Don’t worry if you’ve never sung before, musicality is secondary to a love of music and a decent attitude - plus - we have a free rehearsal space with all the equipment in the city centre so we’ve got plenty of time to get ourselves off the ground.
