R.E.M. by Stipe seek Guitar dep
Stipe are a successful tribute band, recreating the music of R.E.M. with love and care. We have played to many thousands of people across the UK, Ireland and parts of Europe.
We are currently seeking a guitar dep, mainly to cover the ‘Peter Buck’ role when our lead guitarist is unavailable. We would also like this person to be able to cover the acoustic guitar/ backing vocals role where required.
The person we are looking for will be musically-literate with a great sense of rhythm, have good, professional-standard equipment, not in another band, but will have proven experience of playing live.
You’ll be expected to recreate the guitar style of Peter Buck, so your right-hand technique, playing with a pick, will need to be solid. You’ll also need to play the mandolin well enough to play ‘Losing My Religion’ with total accuracy.
For the acoustic-guitar/ b-vox role, you’ll need to have solid strumming ability, a professional-standard acoustic and be able to blend vocals with the two other vocalists on stage.
It's important to us that the person joining our ‘dep’ pool is a genuine R.E.M. fan, and understands the values underpinning the music. If you’ve ever had a problem with any of R.E.M.’s political views, we’re not the band for you.
We’re a lovely, friendly (slightly bonkers) bunch who love to play this great music for our fellow fans, so we’re looking for someone who’ll fit in, enjoy themselves and be an all-round good egg. In return, there’s a minimum dep fee per gig, and you’ll be able to travel to gigs with us in the van. For this reason, and for other practical reasons, we are looking for someone within a reasonable distance of Cheshire, where most of us are based, though this isn’t necessarily set in stone.
