ABOUT

I am 61 year old musician who has played electric bass for pub rock bands, been a depping bass player for a funk band in Hamburg, a community Musician and played acoustic bass and volunteered for The Inner Vision Orchestra. This was facilitated by Baluji Shrivistav who now has an OBE. I have some visual impairments cannot read scores. I have also played bass for a jazz trio. I mainly play jazz standards on acoustic guitar and have wanted to form a trio playing , reggae jazz, cocktail/jazz standards and Gypsy jazz. Unfortunately I was let down by a singer. The line up would have been and still could be; myself on acoustic guitar, another acoustic guitarist and a singer playing percussion as well. My other and main interest is to form a voluntary group of musicians who live on the Merseyside and Lancashire. This would be a form of mutual assistance for each other. I have thought of a name for the organisation, Merseyshire Sounds. There are many problems for us musicians. Most gigs, apart from the summer months are at night often finish late. If you a driving musician (two cabs from Liverpool to Blackpool and back, what?) and if you play full kit drums, no choice, similar for most other electric instruments, you may have a long commute to a late night gig. One pint? You might just drink water anyway. Another musician living close to you that is in the group might attend the gig and drive you and a couple of members to the group. Another alternative is that a member of the voluntary group living in the area of the gig may accommodate you or even two band members. (NB. I absolutely appreciate that not all musicians want to tour the world, half of Europe or even all of The North. Playing Live as a business opportunity is a no goer for many even well known outfits. Exceptions , one off restaurants gigs, weddings.) Some musicians may want to go to each other's homes enjoy playing music and listening to music. Or in a rehearsal studio. There could be some co-teaching occuring as well. Most musicians in a local area know the venues and music shops, even take aways and even where the local co-ops or other shops are. And anyone can forget a guitar jack lead or even a plectrum...you just lend one. Any member of the proposed group will want to ensure that anyone they offer to stay or drive can genuinely play an instrument or sing. How? Meet up at a jam (some could be created or a music instrument shop.) The person would have to bring their instrument and voice (Singer.) Given that the same sort of instrument exist in the music instrument shop - then just go in and ask to test out an instrument. The same applies for the person offering this mutual aid service. Both go in, have a quick practice and you will know if you can both play or not. If there is not the instrument a person plays in the store meet outside the store and give each other a quick demonstration of playing skills. If it is raining or snowing, a gig might be postponed and you might agree to meet in a rehearsal studio. Or you might meet at the venue, most small venues are open during the day. Ok. When there are ten or so members we can agree to meet up contact a small venue in Liverpool and discuss the voluntary group and even set up a small jam.
