I am primarily a drummer, but have some classical vocal training- and so would prefer to play the kit, but am not adverse to doing some backing vocals, or singing the odd song.
I am mainly interested in playing Power/Prog metal- but am not adverse to other genres if they are predominantly melodic or musically interesting.
Unfortunately, whilst I am very committed to my music when I'm around, I am currently at university, and so am away for half the year. However, I do have very long vacations, and so am free from June to the start of October, for a summer of music; And am around for about five or six weeks around Christmas and Easter. Over the course of the year, I'm around Manchester more times than I'm not!
Thus I would be looking for a band or project that can survive without me during term times- but are willing to put in some intensive practice, song-writing and gigging when we're all together.
I am primarily into Power Metal and Prog Metal- but am not adverse to listening to the occasional well-placed growling (although my own voice doesn't suit this particularly well!) but to me melody is everything.
I love stuff like Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Masterplan, Blind Guardian, Evergrey, Ayreon, Iron Maiden, Symphony X and Dream Theater (although I can't compare myself at all to Portnoy!). I quite enjoy stuff like Bodom's earlier albums (anything before and including Follow the Reaper.) I also love Opeth, but drumming 10+ minute long death metal songs is not particularly one of my strong points.
I have a couple of sets of drums (a birch pearl set for studio and practice, and an older premier set for gigging) and all associated hardware. I also play a selection of Sabian cymbals.
