Toby Wainwright Johns has been Performing live in various musical guises for around 13years. Unlucky for some, but not Toby. Since 2004 he has concentrated on his solo career, and has just released his third record, the mini album- Pressed Flowers. Toby`s music explores the darker side of human nature. His songs journey deep into the soul and awaken something stark and primal in the listener. That is not to say that his music lacks beauty; far from it! The songs themselves are crafted with passion and care. Nurtured into existance and set free!

Toby Wainwright Johns` songs are extremely lyrical. Some poetic... He is able to craft words in order to set the scene for a story in which the listener becomes the artist. His imagary is second to none, and his wordplay clever, yet there is something deeper using phonetics within the words themselves to create language as almost animalistic in sound!

INFLUENCES

Toby encompasses a vast array of styles and genres into his music. These include:

Tango, Gypsy music(East european and Flamenco), Classical(Brouwer,Segovia,etc), Punk(The Clash,The big boys,etc), Grunge(The Jesus Lizard,etc), Folk, UK and World traditional music, Radiohead, Portishead, Minimalism(Glass,etc), Regina Spektor, Kimya Dawson, Gotan Project, Indie, Electronica + many more..Too many to list! Basically Toby is open to anything as long as it isn`t genre by numbers! This could explain his unusual style. His compositions are unique in that they never conform to any standard, and always leave the listener searching in vain for a pigeon hole!

THE CREATURES WITH BEAUTIFUL EYES(2005)- Wild,raw and only available from Toby himself! Limited copies available! This album marked the beginning of Tobys unique style as a solo singer/songwriter. It retains the edgy, punk rock ideals found in previous incarnations such as his band redshift. This record though, founded a new genre combining earthy melodies and ethereal shapeshifting...
