ABOUT
Caracana is an uplifting Nos Lowen or Cornish Ceilidh folk group, with music deriving from their native land of Cornwall, as well as Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Sweden, Brittany, Galicia, Eastern Europe and from their own compositions.
The spirit of Caracana is reflected in their name, which means ‘the love of music’ in the Cornish language. The group was first formed over a decade ago, and their heartfelt music has been enjoyed by audiences throughout Cornwall. They have also represented Cornwall at the Interceltic Lorient Festival in France and were the support act for The Incredible String Band at The Eden Project.
Well known for playing a diverse range of folk, Caracana has become a sought after Ceilidh Band on the Cornish folk scene. Their music covers a wide range of genres and their close harmony singing is a delight to experience.

Members Of Band
Pema Wainwright - (Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Vocals & Percussion) - As a founding member of the band, Pema brings a youthful energy with her quirky percussion and mesmerising clarinet.
Anita W. Cock - (Double-Bass & Vocals) - A rare talent, performing in countless bands throughout the county, we are lucky to have Anita on board and she is well loved by all.
Simon Tagney - (Guitar, Flute & Vocals) - Simon joined the group in 2018 when he moved down from Bristol and helps fill the backline beneath the winding melodies with cheerful strumming and occasional vocal and flute interludes.
Cathy Trodd - (Fiddle, Guitar & Vocals) - recently rejoined and loving it!
Alastair Russell - (Guitar & Vocals) - With the band for over a decade, Alastair's driving rhythm is the metronome to Caracana's unique sound. Sadly Alastair is no longer with us as he passed away in 2017, we will remember him always.
