After a year hiatus from being in a band I'm looking for musical collaboration again. I know the fit has to be right, though - I just really want to write music with others. I'm good at vertical arrangement but lack experience in songwriting, so would love to find someone or some people to compliment that. I don't care what instruments you play, it's more about the culture fit for me and having shares goals. I want to have fun, but I also want to create meaningful music. I'll also mention early on that I work at a rehearsal studio, therefore would be able to provide a rehearsal space for free. I'm also trans and queer, and this for me is something I want at the forefront of whatever I do next as it was really important and meaningful to a lot of people in my last band.
Ok here is my full list of experience:
I previously spent 6 years as a bassist/BV and manager of an LGBT+ alt rock band in Southampton, during that time making the band financially self sufficient, creating a strong community of fans and recording an EP and a crowd funded 12 track album. The band was hometown successful, but bare in mind we had less than 1500 followers on socials, so small fry still.
I learnt how to edit videos and produce pretty sick VFX for a three part music video trilogy, as well as making the props and being the producer for a 31 crew set over several locations. It was crazy but I loved it.
Other skills:
- Engineering and mixing/ production knowledge
- Live tech setup (e.g. low budget IEM rig rundown, tracks and triggers via Ableton, etc)
- I am a qualified luthier just starting my buisness covering repairs and setup for any stringed instruments, drums, cymbal repairs - anything
- 3D printing and CAD design - lots of merch ideas - making my own pickups atm
- Gig photography (I used to take pictures of the bands we played with before / after our sets)
- Work at Pure Rehearsal studio, so free access to rehearsal space
- Made a cello-guitar (arpeggione) so no more string VSTs on recordings baby
- Teaching bass and drums, and have a fairly solid working knowledge of music theory
Finally, I have some experience of playing for large crowds as we played several years at Southampton Pride & People's Pride as well as other cities. I like to be dynamic on stage and generally focus on creating an engaging performance over being a perfectionist on stage.
I can hit the ground running playing bass; I've not played drums with a band however, but it wouldn't take long for me to get there. Vocals I have worked on significantly, doesn't come easy for me but I'm at a point where I can do BVs as well as some heavier vocals. Finally I really need an incentive to play the arpeggione more. Ideally would be great working with other multi-Instrumentalists because I just can't choose what I want to play more.
I hope I'm not coming across as conceited, I'm just passionate about anything related to music and I feel like I have a lot to offer. I desperately miss making music and playing music live!
