Influences

Whereas I am typically and ethnically from a soul, blues, reggae background I also listened to indie and punk in the eighties including clash, cure, smiths, bowie during my teenage years and during 20 years with my husband have added nirvana, she sells sanctuary and the cult to the list. I sang in Church of England choirs as a child and touched on folk with groups at my local rugby club when I lived in London. Like many people (I hope) I often can’t discuss artists and song lists but find more often than not I know the tune and the lyrics. I do have a soulful voice but can turn to a clearer sound (more suited to folk) as this (believe it or not) is where I started. I still miss John Peel and listen to Radio 6 music.

I am keen to try and learn. When you talk about taking a good tune… this is something we have done with the Zeds and what comes out is often a meld of what everyone in the band is interested in and can be very new in itself.
