A new-to-Brighton music project, queer and femme led!
My name is Lauren, and this is my project headspvce (pronounced headspace in case that wasn’t obvious!). This project is my main creative outlet, and I have a large number of demos that I am currently in the process of finishing off. I am a producer, studio engineer and live musician, who has worked in studios, live setup and sound, and played live incessantly around london with a number of different independent projects over the last 5 years.
Now, I am searching for committed band members to rehearse intensively the tracks that I have written on my own, with a view to begin writing together, and make this project a more collaborative adventure. I want to begin to play shows around Brighton and London over the next year, to lead up to the recording and release of my first six track EP.
The roles that need filling are:
- a lead guitarist (preferably with interest and experience using effects pedals interestingly and experimenting with alternate tunings, and optionally some knowledge of keys!)
- a rock solid bass player who knows how to groove and make people dance. bass is my favourite instrument and the foundation of the band, so I want someone who knows how important it is and can give their all every night!
- a versatile and open minded drummer, preferably knowledge of Roland triggers/SPD style equipment as much of the music is infused with electronic textures.
Live and studio experience preferred but not compulsory, although having your own instrument(s)/pedals/equipment is (even if it is a minimal setup, we will work with what we have!)
Of course, if any of our potential core members have experience with any of the other instruments listed or even have some keys and synths and would be willing to experiment with them, then this would also be a bonus!
I want to encourage femme/queer/gnc identifying musicians to the front on this one simply because I want this project to create a safe and empowering community and space at every show. Age wise, I am quite open, I myself am 18 and of course musicians close to my age would be incredible, but I do currently work in bands with others who are in their mid to late twenties. The most important qualities are commitment and enthusiasm. I am now based in Central Brighton, having just moved from South East London to study at Waterbear.
I really love the songs I am writing/have written for this project and want to make some long term friends to work with me, share their ideas, and make it the best it can be. I’m very open to how parts will be divvied up live, I just want to meet likeminded musicians who love the energy and politics of femme led punk and the sonic innovation of shoegaze and EDM. I want this project to be a collaborative one, and while it is led by my creative vision and ideas, I want to feel part of a community and that every voice in the group is heard and understood!
The idea behind this band is to avoid ridiculous egos and not get bogged down in the weird social intricacies of live scenes, but to build our own community with strong ethics, and to make a life for ourselves doing something we love, having fun, and creating art we really care about!

Influences
I want to make varied, often heavy music that sounds like a cinematic night out at the club and makes people want to dance like fu*king crazy!
Sound: PJ Harvey, Wolf Alice, Lambrini Girls, X Ray Spex, Sonic Youth, Fraulein, Hole, Mazzy Star, Josefin Ohrn + The Liberation, Slowdive, Sloppy Jane, Drug Store Romeos, Garbage.
Energy/Vision/Writing: SOPHIE, Charli XCX, The Velvet Underground, My Chemical Romance, Yard Act, Florence and the Machine, Courtney Barnett, LCD Soundsystem.
Members Of Band
Lauren, 19 - Songwriter, Guitarist and Vocalist, Programmer and Producer.
EQUIPMENT
I have my own guitars, pedals, amps and so forth, and I have also bought an SPD-SX and some triggers recently to be property of the band! To be a good fit the only things I definitely need are your time and belief in the songs, but having your own instrument/breakables and a willingness to develop your sound and setup would be great too!
