ABOUT

Hi,

After a life-time of being a below-par self-taught pianist I decided to... take up the violin! I'm 'doing the grades' and will hopefully get my ABRSM Grade 7 this year (2013). I've played for just over four years and love the instrument.
I'm lucky enough to have my own small pub venue so I've had a lot of experience jamming with other musicians - and I'm a strong improvisor. I write a few songs too, from time to time, and I love the process of musical arrangement.
I played for a while in a trio (singer, guitarist and me on fiddle) and I've tagged along with a few other local bands in order to build up gig experience. I have two main aims at the moment:

1 To form or join a band doing a mixture of originals and not-too-obvious covers. I prefer the slightly unconventional... (my previous trio covered, among others, Lady Gaga, Duran Duran and Iron Maiden to give an idea... Oh, and I have a female vocalist to hand as well (clean 80s-style pop voice - great intonation)!

2 On the classical side, I'd like to form or join a small chamber group - or a quartet. I am new to reading music and admit I find it hard. I can sight read at about ABRSM Grade 4 standard. I need the experience of being in a classical ensemble - but would be aiming to expand a little further from traditional repertoire. A-Team TV theme anyone?

Above all, for me, music is to be enjoyed and working with it has to be fun. I'd like to meet other musicians who are fun to be with, who can have a laugh and are passionate about their music.

Cheers, Ian
