Brought up on classical piano (grade 6) and church organ, and sang in choirs (bass). I can strum a guitar, I listened to classical music from a child, and then pop, rock, and everything.
I have a musical ear, and a good sense of rhythm (according to my drum teacher, ask him).
Having played drums a bit whilst in my youth, and always loving drums, and wanting to play, at the age of 50 I decided to do it properly. Had lessons for a couple of years (at the wonderful Drum Garden with Kevin Dredge) but after only about 6 months I joined a pop covers band. Rather a lot of Blondie etc, but good fun, and I loved gigging - what a buzz!. After about 3 years of that, we stopped for various reasons, and I had a rest for a couple of years, but now I want to get back into it. I like covers, but I'd rather get a bit heavier than pop.
To learn a new track I begin by emulating the drums on the record, then when we group-rehearse, things change and I change with it.
Ideally I'd play 1 gig a month.
