ABOUT

What started as an on line collaboration between like minded musicians Jay, Rob, Dan and Ash has now morphed into what can only be described as a truly dynamic and outstanding band…. Mercury Doll.

With songs such as Lobster, Perceptual Pendulum, Pack can dot, The Graduate and Its Carnage. Mercury Dolls music is diverse, intelligent, commercial, heavy, powerful, uplifting, light, dark, heart felt, innovative and progressive.

Mercury Doll draw there interests from bands such as, Tool, Biffy Clyro, Jet, A Perfect Circle, Karnivool, Alterbridge, Porcupine Tree, Foo Fighters, Reef, Amplifier, Alice in chains, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden

Now I don't know whether to really class this as an EP because these are just a selection of demos from this band who I happened to find on as the page was suggested to me by one of their members. Usually I may not actually look over all their stuff but I listened to one song and then I had to listen to all five demos. I wouldn't usually have to listen to all a band's demos because in all honesty a lot of demos really don't stand out too much but I have to admit this band had me listening to the songs on repeat.

Considering these are demo tracks, they're fu*king brilliant ones. The music is big, it's heavy but there is also much more and there is a great sense of structure within each song. The structures aren't basic though, there is a lot to it and each song is finely crafted with the dynamics within the band exploited to the fullest potential creating songs that will have your ears prisoner to the sounds this band are making. Perceptual Pendulum shows this great sense of structure and the power behind the music. To me though what really stands out is the vocals in the chorus which are packed fully with emotion and these vocals are equally driven with music played fully with conviction; and as a whole we can feel the emotion in every song as this conviction drives behind each members musical ability in every song.

The sound is very similar to Stone Temple Pilots especially listening to the vocals but there is a higher level of technicality to the music and a bit more creativity to sway away from a generic rock sound. There is though an ever present darkness to the music but a discreet and clever darkness which really adds to giving that overall emotional feel to the music. You will see what I mean when listening to the song It's Carnage which happens to be one of the slower songs out of the selection, it has that darkness but it is also played with a hell of a lot of passion and we can feel the pain within the music.

I have to say I love the sound this band are creating, but one thing that separates this band from a lot of other bands is the level of conviction this band are playing with and it's that which really puts this band on a healthy level when compared against most of today's rock artists. So go like their page and listen to their stuff on Soundcloud because it's brilliant.
