I was given my first guitar at the age of 8 and almost from the first day it became a close friend.
I didn't always play it; sometimes I played marbles on it or rolled my cars on it! But importantly, it was always there. I started out as a self-taught player. I feel that from that early age I understood how to make the right noises with the guitar, and it felt right in my hands. I had already established my self as a professional musician long before I started to take lessons. I have been lucky enough to study at ICMP with some fantastic teachers, but I think its important to say that 95% of my musical knowledge has been acquired ' in the field'. I truly believe that to learn an instrument, you need to play it as much as possible in as many different situations as you can. Diversity of knowledge is power. I play guitar everyday, and I find that I am still discovering its secrets.
I am comfortable in many different styles and can play at a high level in most genres of music. It is safe to say that my playing came from my love of rock, heavy metal and blues music. But I am also heavily influenced by funk and disco music. And I think this combination is clear to hear in my playing. I use the speed and aggression of rock and metal, the phrasing and emotion of the blues, and the rhythm and groove of funk and disco in the way that I interpret a piece of music.
I have extensive live and studio experience. I have been lucky enough to play shows all over the UK and Europe, including world-class venues as well as private clubs and parties. I have worked on many sessions and recordings over the years including some indie film soundtracks.
I pride myself on being a bass player, not a guitar player that can mess around on bass. I have taken the time to understand the instrument and get an understanding of the many different techniques that are available. And I am now able to say that my bass playing is at the same level as my guitar playing. I am a totally self taught player. I learnt to play by playing along to my favorite songs, and then buying hundreds of books and DVD's and really taking the time to enjoy the instrument and finding where it fits in with the other instruments.
I am available for Dep work for function/party bands or if you need a guitar player or Bass player for a couple of gigs please feel free to get in touch. I am a quick learner and I use very good quality equipment.
