ABOUT

Hi,
I've been in a few bands over the years, gigged a fair bit and had a lot of fun but my problem is I've mostly ended up in bands on the heavy side of indie rock which isn’t really my thing with people desperate to make it in the industry.
I just want to have some fun playing music people enjoy; which isn't to say industry recognition wouldn't be nice.

I have a dream project, maybe you’ll want to join me.

I want to create an upbeat accessible/poppy indie band with some light ska/reggae influences. Maybe slightly politically left (if my personality shows through) but thats less important really. Not opposed to the odd slow or acoustic song either but it's nice to play stuff people can dance too. Shouldn't take ourselves too seriously, I want this to be a fun band to watch aswel as be in.

I can play a few different instruments. Guitar, ukelele, drums (well thats a stretch I can keep basic time at least) but I'm mainly a bassist.

So I guess I’m looking for a singer (or singers), guitarist and a drummer. Any other instruments are more than welcome. If your influences are slightly different to the above thats also great, I’m sure as long as we are talking about a vaguely similar thing we can work together.
If you play any sort of brass instruments trumpet, trombone that would really help fill out the sound.

I’ll also happily admit that I’m not the most amazing musician in the world so don’t worry about that sort of thing but some band experience would be good.

For your information I’m a guy in my mid 30’s, don’t mind if you’re male, female, 19 or 90 although it would be a bit strange if I ended up the odd one out in a group focused at either end of that range.

I work full time so am available weekends and evenings. Getting to and from rehearsals without hassle is important, I’m based in south london and work in west london so if you live around there or have easy transport to that sort of area that would be great.

I have some ideas for some songs that I’m starting to work on but am not a very practiced songwriter, structure is fine but not so good with words and am scared of singing. So they are lyrically sparse at the moment
If you are a songwriter and this sounds interesting great, even an aspiring songwriter but need some help I’ve lots of experience working with people and have some reasonable recording gear to help.
(actually over the years I’ve accumulated all the stuff to record a full band in my flat, guitars, amps, mics and a practice drum kit but it is in no way a suitable location for that sort of thing)

I’m really not into band uniforms or stuff like that but I feel we should be able to create a brand around the band. Hopefully get a designer on board from the start for logos and stuff to use in marketing ourselves.
Responsibility for promoting us, social media /twitter/youtube/bandcamp and that sort of thing should be shared amongst the group or even our friends. Importantly people helping us out should feel part of the group.

Regular rehearsals, convenient for everyone and everyone involved should feel free to give feedback. It would be good to work to a rough plan/structure, first gig, record demos, know what we'll be working on before getting into the studio.

Also long term if we work things out musically and can discuss a song structure it means that people should be able to drop in and out if needed. Acoustic gig with a singer + guitarist to a full band should be possible.

I know that sounds like some sort of hippy dream but hopefully by outlining what I want to do from the start it should be possible to achieve something along these lines.

Hope you got through all that, what do you think?
