I play a wierd cajon set up built around a slaptop turbo played with hands or brushes, which gives a nice dry sound. I can put the mics through my delay pedal for a nice percussive delay effect. I also play finger drums on an FGDP50. The percussion is where I'd fit best into a band.
I also love to write lyrics. Upbeat and downbeat, bittersweet stories about lost love, with plenty of maniacs and misfits. Nostalgia and murder both play a part. See the images for some examples.
I also play a bit of rhythm tenor guitar (acoustic and electric).
I'm looking to hook up with a songwriter or musician or two who want to play for fun - either originals or covers.
I enjoy all genres except heavy metal and rap.
In 2024 I agreed to play percussion at a fantastic up-and-coming folk musician's London and Southampton album launch gigs. He says:
"I asked Robin if he'd be the percussionist for the band I put together for my album launch. We had a lovely phone call and put in a first practise. After that I knew I'd made a great decision in choosing him and had struck gold: a sensitive, listening player, attuned to the moods and dynamics of the songs, dedicated to the performance and an easy-to-get-along-with guy!"
Thank you, Theo! As I hope you can tell, I love music, and people, and performing. I'm friendly and easygoing, and young at heart.
The two song samples here are recorded with Reaper DAW, and a mix of live drums and drum samples, uke and tenor but all written, arranged, played and recorded by me.
