ABOUT

Rory Hildick is a UK multi-instrumentalist based in London. His main instruments are the drums and guitar, and he has over a decade’s experience playing in professional musical performances. Rory has performed in groups as well as solo in different cities around the world including Seoul and Berlin.

He began playing the guitar at the age of fourteen, taking lessons from a family friend and starting a school band which played together regularly. After leaving school, Rory continued his musical education at university, further exploring the guitar as well as taking up the drums.

In 2009 Rory moved to South Korea and soon after formed the instrumental duo Ether. The eclectic band helped him develop his surfy electric guitar style and also opened up his interest in musical improvisation and experimentation, developing his own method of improvisation using electronic instruments such as the Elektron Machinedrum.

Ether relocated to Berlin in 2013 and here Rory discovered the extensive Berlin music scene, attending jam nights and contributing to various gigs and musical projects.

In 2015, Rory moved to London and he is now drumming for a soul/funk band called 528 and a Beat.

Rory is also currently working on improvisational and experimental music as well as studying the traditional folk music of Eastern Europe and the Near East, such as Klezmer, Bulgarian folk music and traditional Turkish music.

Rory currently delivers regular instrumental lessons on guitar as well as drums. He has a great love of all kinds of music, and is experienced in playing many styles, from rock and psychedelia to soul, funk, punk, jazz and electronica.
