Bass Guitar.ABOUT
Shades Of Blue need a new bass player. We are a busy band, playing regularly in Wiltshire, Somerset, South Glos etc - normally at pubs with occasional Blues Clubs and so on. We are working towards Blues Festivals by developing our own material, although the sets are mainly covers at the moment. If you are a songwriter - great!
This is essentially what we need from you:
1) Commitment. We gig on average 3/4 times a month, so ideally you would not be in any other bands, and, although we all dep occasionally with others, Shades Of Blue is our first priority. Also, although family comes first, partners need to understand what it's like being in a band!
You will need to commit to rehearsing in Devizes once a week, unless we have two gigs in one week.
2) No shift workers please. In our experience, shift working doesn't fit with being in a band!
3) Age is no barrier - you might say that some of us are - ahem, 'mature'!
4) Quick learning. Our current bass player is staying while we find and rehearse up a new man, but obviously we would like you to be up to speed asap.
5) Like playing our sort of stuff! This, you would think, would be obvious, but you'd be surprised how often this seems to be overlooked! We play a mixture of Blues, Blues/Rock and R&B, with a leaning towards the more jazzy and funky end rather than the 'rockier' end. We can supply you with a typical set list so you can see the sort of thing. No bass players who think they are a lead guitarist please! You will need to provide a solid, inventive foundation with the drummer (who, I can tell you, you will immensely enjoy playing with!), without overpowering the band. Think Carmine Rojas - bass man for Joe Bonamassa.
6) Good kit and reliable transport. Essential
7) The band is a democracy and all opinions count, particularly in picking new material and agreeing gigs.
Cool A sense of humour! Although we take our music very seriously, it's got to be enjoyable. If you can't take a joke, don't like being ribbed if you make a mistake (we all do!), and are not in it for the crack, we ain't the band for you!
and finally.....
Take a look at our website www.shadesofblue.bandvista . Take your time going through the site, checking out where we play, who we are, listen to our stuff and check out the Youtube clips. This is so you can decide whether we might be the band for you without wasting everybody's time!
Please PM us here, or reply through the website.
Cheers!
