SEEKING
Band to Join, Vocalist, Acoustic Guitar, Drums, Banjo, Fiddle, Accordion.ABOUT
In the bands that I've been in, I've mostly played bass guitar (including fretless). I can also play acoustic guitar, and a bit on the Appalachian dulcimer, banjo, mandolin and ukelele. (If it's got strings and doesn't need a bow, I'll probably give it a try). I sing a bit too, and have a fair amount of open mic experience (where I usually accompany myself on acoustic guitar). As a bassist, I like to be creative, so I like to write my own lines from chords, or through jamming and writing. I am a genuine and enthusiastic collaborator, but I'm not interested in being any egotist's 'backing musician'.

Influences
Basically, what you'd expect from an old folkie (I'm fifty-two this year). I like the older Irish and Scottish instrumental and ballad traditions, and also the band-based stuff (e.g., the Incredible String Band, Planxty, the Dubliners, the Waterboys and the Pogues). I like the singer-songwriters of the 1960s / 1970s (especially Nick Drake, Buffy Sainte Marie, Leonard Cohen, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Ralph McTell, John Martyn, Bert Jansch and Bob Dylan) and some more contemporary ones, too (especially Billy Bragg, Frank Turner and Grace Petrie). I like Cajun music, too, and quite a lot of indie and alternative music.

EQUIPMENT
I have all the equipment I need - fretted and fretless basses, acoustic guitar, mandolin, four- and eight-string ukuleles, Appalchian dulcimer, autoharp, decent mic (SM58) stand and speaker, and practice and main bass amps.
Probably the big drawback is that I do not drive, although I'm pretty mobile. I live in central Exeter, and my house is available for jams.
