ABOUT

I've played in concert bands, orchestras, swing/big bands and small jazz groups (trad and later styles). Currently I'm in a 60s/70s soul band playing Wilson Pickett, Martha Reeves through to Stevie Wonder and Tower of Power.

I'm used to reading but not playing from memory so that is something I'll need to work on if significantly required. I'm fundamentally a light/soft player but I think that's good; I'm not about to play in stadiums!

Influences

The usual many. As far as playing is concerned, Jeff Hamilton and Herlin Riley, Zigaboo Modeliste, Clyde Stubblefield, Steve Gadd, Steve Smith, Mel Lewis. Any style with "swing/groove/funk"; the straighter or less "interesting" it is I'm less interested. That said, I like a lot, want to play and am aware of the need to support the music.

Lincoln Center Jazz, Zappa, Jazz greats, Nick Drake, Led Zeppelin, Elbow, The Creation, Echo and the Bunnymen, New Orleans style, Tower of Power, Stevie Wonder, Nat King Cole, Brian Blade Fellowship, The Verve, Television, Muddy Waters, London Grammar, Kraftwerk, Public Enemy, Rage Against the Machine, Duke Ellington, Nina Simone, Van Morrison, Joe Harriott, Orff, Walton, Vaughan Williams, Stravinsky, Tigran Hamasyan, Queen, Simon and Garfunkel, Gotye, Yes the Raven, Tim Buckley, Jeff Buckley, The La's..........

Drumset - small or medium bass drum size. Selection of light jazz style cymbals and a set of classic 50s/60s Zildjian Avedis. Good for small to medium rooms and sensible levels.

Bits of percussion like cowbells, tambourine (orchestral), triangle.

Xylophone (but might sell it!).

Roland digital piano but no "amp".
