ABOUT

Dr Taichi Imanishi is an accomplished drummer and percussionist with a wealth of experience performing at world-class venues such as the Barbican Hall, Royal Albert Hall, and the Brighton Dome. His drumming expertise spans a wide range of styles, from avant-garde to popular music, making him a versatile and sought-after performer.

Having studied with renowned percussionists like David Corkhill and Simon Limbrick, Dr Imanishi has developed a unique and powerful drumming style. His performances, including collaborations with international artists and premieres of his own compositions, have captivated audiences both in the UK and abroad. He has also performed solo percussion works, such as Peter Eötvös’ compositions, and toured as a soloist with the Brighton & Hove Youth Strings Ensemble, premiering his own marimba and chamber works.

In addition to his performance career, Dr Imanishi is a dedicated educator, holding a PhD in Ethnomusicology from SOAS, University of London, and an MA in Percussion Performance from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He combines his drumming talent with deep academic knowledge, offering students an unparalleled learning experience.

His notable achievements include winning second prize at the 23rd TIAA All Japan Composition Competition and premiering works for Japanese and Western instruments. Whether performing solo, collaborating with ensembles, or composing innovative cross-cultural pieces, Dr Imanishi’s drumming talent remains at the heart of his artistic journey.
