ABOUT

I was a semi-pro musician in the mid 90’s and early 00’s. I had brief critical success with solo project Tears In X-Ray Eyes (look it up), and also toured as guitar/keys player with Ben Christophers (look him up). I have a lot of experience of writing, recording and performing live - but not for 20 years - until now!

I am putting together The Displays, a modern indie-pop band with influences including late 70s - late 90s, post-punk / new wave / indie.

I want to find band members that:
- Do take their pop music seriously
- Don’t take themselves seriously
- Love at least half of the listed influences, and know what makes them great
- Can make a fantastic noise with their instrument, and play like their idols
- Have experience of playing live
- Want to be part of a live band that strives to be as good as anything else out there
- Can commit to rehearsing one evening per week, near to Guildford, Surrey
- Like the demos I’ve recorded, and are happy to play songs I write
- Can contribute musical ideas, and are happy for me to play “musical director”

I don’t care how old you are - I’m in my early 50s. In some ways I like the idea of everyone being a slightly frazzled but greatly experienced indie-rock casualty… equally if you’re in your 20s and are up for it, that’s great. Obviously you do need to be able to look timeless on stage - Bowie managed it, and The Edge still does!
