ABOUT

We are The Dwyer, an Irish Traditional Folk/Rebel Band from Glasgow. We are seeking a Penny Whistle player who is also willing to do vocals to complete the band. Thus far we have Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin and Bass.

We play a mix of folk songs, jigs and republican ballads, possibly adding some Scottish Jacobite songs too. We take inspiration from the folk revival groups of the 60's and 70's and wish to bring back that old sound. We are all guys in our 20's, so the ideal candidate would be of a similar age group.

We hope to play regular gigs around Glasgow in the usual Irish pubs (Graces, Kitty O'Shea's, Waxy O'Connor's etc). However, we would like to take it further and hopefully eventually establish ourselves as a band who can play larger gig venues. So we are looking for commited people. We usually rehearse once a week at either pirate studios or Berkeley. We hope to rehearse more often if possible.

Our dress code is smart trousers and a shirt (or an Aran sweater if you really want to look the part).

Our arrangements aren't very complicated yet. Once we have the band together, we will work on things like vocal harmonies for a truly rich sound. Also, it would be great if you could sing in an Irish accent, doesn't have to be a great one (mine certainly isn't).

Here are some of the songs we either have played or intend to play:

- The Boys Of The Old Brigade
- Henry Joy
- Come Out Ye Black & Tans
- Sean South from Garryowen
- The Merry Ploughboy
- Billy Reid
- The Wild Rover
- Slievenamon
- The Night Visiting Song
- God Save Ireland
- Follow Me Up To Carlow
- Our Lads In Crumlin Jail
- Shanagolden
- Johnny, I Hardly Knew Ye
- The Bold Fenian Men
- Bold O’Donahue
- Johnny Lad
- Highland Paddy
- Black Velvet Band
- Kelly, The Boy From Killane
- Let The People Sing
- The Gallant Fourty Twa
- Farewell To Carlingford
- The Spanish Lady
- The Town I Loved So Well
- The Foggy Dew
- The Irish Rover
- The Bard of Armagh
- Mary from Dungloe
- A Nation Once Again
and probably hundreds more...

So if this interests you, then please get in touch and send us a wee recording of you playing. Anything that takes your fancy!

Have a good yin!
