Heatwave, the original south London group by that name, ca. 1969, recorded 'Sister Simon (Funny Man)' as the A-side and 'Rastus Ravel (Is A Mean Old Man)' as the B-side, (both written by John Edward), in Pye Studios, London on 16th October 1970.
Maggie Stredder, Gloria George and Marian Davis, known as The Ladybirds sang back-up on the A-side, with Rick Wakeman playing piano and Doris Troy singing back-up on the B-side.
Friday 13th November 1970, Larry Page released their single on Penny Farthing Records.
Heatwave played the Liverpool Cavern Club for a week and is proud of its commemorative brick, 20 rows directly above 'John', in the Cavern Wall of Fame.
