ABOUT

So I?m not a real doctor.....just a musician. My name is Toby Wilson and I live in the Staffordshire Moorlands, smack dab in the middle of the UK. I have been a guitar player since I was 4 years old, and picked up dobro and banjo around 10 years ago. The dobro added ?colour? and variety to the songs that I was (and still am!) performing with my long time friend and performing buddy Graham Breeze in the duo Breeze & Wilson. I also run a small, but well equipped, recording studio from my home and have been working with live sound, digital audio and acoustic instruments since the late 1980?s. I have recorded albums for many clients and also for many friends that I have discovered through performing music both here in the UK and abroad. On many of these recording projects I have been asked to add dobro tracks and it has always been my absolute pleasure to oblige. Here?s the deal...it?s quite simple. I love playing dobro and I would like to spend all my time playing dobro....but I, like many other musicians, have to have a ?proper? job too. Recording and playing live dobro for/with other musicians is a great way to relax. It also challenges my playing style and pushes me to try new things. I?m really interested in reaching out to as many musicians as possible to build my profile and get my name ?out there? .... wherever that is!

EQUIPMENT

I have a host of instruments, some for studio use and some for live. My mainstay guitar is a Taylor 310 CE with a Roland GK3 midi pickup. I don't use the onboard undersaddle transducer much, as I fitted a Fishman Rare Earth sound-hole pickup which I prefer. I use 2 resonators. The first is a Lebeda STandard that I bought from the London Resonator Centre around 8 years ago. This is a lovely handmade instrument with a loud, quite brash, tone. The main reso that I use for both live and recording now is a Dobro Hounddog (round neck). I hired this guitar in Canada a couple of years ago for a tour and really loved the tone. It really shouldn't sound as good as it does....it's a really cheap instrument...it just goes to show. I also use a Deering Senator banjo.
