I've been a bassist in a number of technical, hardcore/death metal and grindcore bands for years. Rather enjoyed the process of writing tunes in the jam room, playing them live and recording them. I've left many bands due to the inflated egos of other band members or those thinking that playing music is a valid career choice. I've got a good job so I can't be bothered with that nonsense. Doing this simply because I love doing it as a hobby and not for money, glory or fame. I only want to hear from you if you want to make music, maybe record it and set a venue on fire with a moshpit here and there.
Was in a decent Morbid Angel-worship death metal band as well, until lockdown hit :(
Previous bands:
The Colour Pink Is Gay (technical death metal): thecolourpinkisgay.bandcamp dot com
Dies The Fire (progressive melodic death metal)
Friday Night Gunfight (technical hardcore)
PigScum (deathcore/grind)
Godplayer (thrash/death metal)
I also have live and studio session experience for other bands under my belt, usually having to learn songs (or entire sets) within a short space of time, something I seem to be uncannily good at as I can pick tunes up pretty quickly. These have included:
The February Solution (live work)
Madman Is Absolute (live work)
Zillah (live work)
Collapse (studio work, a metal project formed by the guitarist for David Sneddon)

PS. The "Chimp Spanner" upload is a remix I did for a competition (didn't win) and not an example of a band I was in.
PPS. Very interested in being part of a "Cardiacs" or "The Police" tribute act, or simply being in a room with like-minded people jamming their tunes.

Influences
Pretty much everything I hear influences me in some way, be it the slowest of doom to the hyperspeed of grindcore, or the twee-est of acoustic guitar or soft electronica to the nastiest harsh sounds imaginable. I tend to listen more to abrasive noisy stuff but I like to temper it with a bit of Enya or Boards Of Canada here and there.
However, since I discovered Cardiacs in June 2019 (I know, VERY late into that game) I have been pretty much obsessed with them and have listened to them every day since. They truly are a life-changing band. If anyone wants a "Jim" for a Cardiacs-inspired band, I'll be right there! No slapping about though cos this Jim will kick your c*nt in.
