Alternative Rock Band TURN OFF THE SUN are looking for a guitarist.
Our guitarist has just decided to call it a day after being with us for 3 years due to Uni commitments. Please see our biography below and if you think you fit the bill get in touch. We're trying to make this transition as smooth as possible as we get a lot of good gig offers and don't want to have to turn too many of them down.
We play regularly at all of the best venues in Birmingham, including The Rainbow, O2 Academy, HMV Institute and The Flapper, and quite often play out of town shows. Check out our music on . We need someone who can commit to rehearsing 1 night a week in the Birmingham/West Midlands/Worcestershire area.
Our influences vary but bands we like include: At the drive-in, Pixies, Interpol, Brand New, Placebo, The Cribs, Bloc Party, Foals, Elbow, Smashing Pumpkins, The Joy Formidable, Biffy Clyro. Foo Fighters, The Smiths etc.
What we like:
People that relish playing live and giving 100%.
An open minded approach to song writing.
Enthusiasm.
What we don't like:
Ego's.
Timewasters.
Heavy Metal.

Biography:
It’s not about egos, or satisfying personal agendas. Or living up to whatever force-fed fashion conscious bullsh*t niche is on the radio that week. It’s not about dress-sense or musical aptitude. And it’s definitely not about money.
It’s about sending hearts racing, limbs flying. It’s about making you want to dance/fight/procreate. It’s about making you reconsider what it is that you get your kicks out of. Making you relate and feel like there are people in this world who feel like you do. It’s about playing each live show like it’s your last, combining melodies that pull you in and words that keep you there. With hearts firmly on sleeves and feet planted to the ground. Number one rule – it’s all about conveying emotion through music.
Selected Highlights:
In the last two years we have played packed-out shows in the best venues all over the Midlands and London, sharing the stage with some of the countries hottest bands in the process.
In 2009 we had the honour of having one of our tracks, ‘Weekend in Prague’ aired on the legendary BBC Radio 6’s ‘Fresh on the Net’ show on several occasions, and can count respected 6Music DJ Tom Robinson as a fan. The same track, along with other tracks from our first EP received widespread airplay on radio stations as far as Japan, USA and Canada, as well as all over the UK.
Our track ‘Lay that ghost to rest’ is currently being used on a promotional video for well-know international brand Halfords, which appears on their website as well as featuring at road shows all over the UK.
The same track is also being used on 14 promo videos for US bike brand VooDoo.
Our Keys player Helen has collaborated on two tracks with Dave Stewart of the Eurythmics.
In October 2010 we travelled to Valencia in Spain for four days to record our 3rd EP. ‘Montesa’ has received fantastic reviews and has continued our presence on radio shows all over Europe and beyond.
The band have performed at several festivals, including Birmingham Artsfest.
We have recently filmed a music video for our next single ‘Walking Wounded’, which stars former world champion kick-boxing legends Matt and James Winsper.
Our new EP 'Armour Plated Tongue' was released on the 5th September, and has already received some very positive reviews. Lead single 'Let the right one in' was aired on Tom Robinson's BBC Radio 6 show ‘Fresh on the Net’.
