Where did the name originate? American 50’s slang - The term "submarine races" was used as a humorous way to convey the message that a couple was or would be going to the beach to park instead of make out point.
You park near the water and watch the submarines race (which is pretty uneventful, so you do something else to pass the time).

The Needingworth Music Festival hosts all sorts of music from rock, blues and jazz with solo performances and bands of all ages and nationalities.
On the Saturday, there are 2 stages with constant music from 1pm to 10.30pm with bar, BBQ and soft drinks including tea and cakes. On Sunday the music tends towards the acoustic side on 1 stage, with tea and cakes provided by the WI taking the place of the 2nd stage. The afternoon runs from 12noon till 6pm and is combined with a village fete organised by Preschool. This is a great weekend for all the family, with plenty of places to sit in the sun and relax while enjoying the fantastic music. There is a lovely play park and an all-weather court as well as lots of grass for games.
The festival is the main fund-raising event for the village hall so please DON’T BRING FOOD AND DRINK. Entry is by donation.
